Plz help with min, max

For any intergers x and y, min(x,y) and max(x,y) denote the minimum and the maximum of x and y, respectively. For example, min (5,2) = 2, max (5,2)+ 5. For the interger w, what is the value of min (10, w)?

(1) w= max(20,z) for some integer z
(2) w= max(10,w)

Right answer is D but i dont understand why (1) is sufficient.
(2) is sufficient anyone could see.

Please help me!!!!

We are asked whether w > 10 or w < 10.

1. max (20,w) = w

From this, we know that w > 20. So, w > 10 as well. So, min (10,w) = 10.
Sufficient.

2. max (10,w) = w

From this, we know that w > 10. So, min (10,w) = 10.
Sufficient.

--->if 20>z then w=20 so for min(10,w) ans is 10
--->if z>20 thwn w=z--->w>20---> for min (10,w) ans is 10 bcoz w>20
hence suff

(2) w= max(10,w)
--->w>10;therfore for min(10,w) ans is 10 since w>10
hence suff

so D

See here min(x,y) and max(x,y) is clearly defined in the question which is clearly understood.
coming up with options (1) & (2).

so min(10,w) = w for w<=10 ,and 10 for w>=10.
(1). w = max(20,z) = 20 for z<=20 so min(10,w) = 10
and z for z>=20 so in that case min(10,w)=min(10,z) =10 because z>20/........ so sufficient
(2). w= max(10,w) = 10 for w<=10 , so min(10,w) = min(10,10) = 10
and w for w>=10, so min(10,w) = 10......................... so sufficient

hence D

min (10, w) is 10 if we can establish w > 10, and in this case we don't need to find w

min (10, w) is w if we can establish w < 10, and in this case we need to find w

(1) Only allows us to figure that w ≥ 20, so w > 10 and min (10, w) is 10. Sufficient

(2) Only allows us to figure that w > 10 and min (10, w) is 10. Sufficient
