Jack and Jill begin to play a series of four games with 400 chips each. At the end of each game, there is a loser who must surrender half of his chips to the winner. If jack wins first and the third game, how many chips does he have after the pay off off at the end of the fourth game?

Answers:

A 200
B 275
C 400
D 525
E 550

I am assuming the question is trying to ask how many chips does Jack have at the end of the 3rd game. We have no information on who won the 4th game.

Start --> Jack(400) Jill(400)
I game --> Jack(600) Jill(200)
IIgame --> Jack(300) Jill(500)
IIIgame --> Jack(550) Jill(250)

So, Jack will have 550 at the end of 3rd game.

I think u may to take it one step further since the question says at the end of 4th game.

Jack wins-> 1,3
Jil->2,4

IMO should be B

Sure, you are right. Missed out thinking further as I thought there was a typo error.

At end of 1st game 600 200
At end of 2nd game 300 500
At end of 3rd game 550 250
At end of 4th game 275 525

Therefore jack has to pay 275 chips to jill.
