Good acads:
Mechanical engineer.

Stood as College sports captain ,as I am good at almost all sports.

Worked in three companies till now:
Experience is as follows:

Hindustan Unilever Limited:(FMCG major)(2 months)

I was given two projects related to machineries used in the production line.
One was in Amli,Silvassa factory where the problem of giveaway was reulting in huge losses. The problem source had to be identified and possible solutions to eliminate that had to be given.
Another project was in Engineering divsion at Kolhapur (Maharashtra).
Here the project was related to continuous monitoring of machines.Yardstick need to be set according to working condition of machineries used in production lines. The whole mechanism identificaton of a machinery was done.Taking wear and tear into account it's present condition had been given a yardstick which has to be used further for other machineries.

Engineers Inida limited:( Petrochemical construction company,MNC)(5months)

I was posted on a construction site, H.P.C.L.-Vishakhapatnam(A.P.), where a project of increasing the production capablilities was going on. Five new units were being constructed. My work was basically managing the construction activities as erection of Pipes , Vessels, Heaters etc of two units and continuos monitoring of all shop floor workers.

BHEL; Research Division(2 years)(Fully technical work)

I am basically posted in Corporate R&D division of BHEL which is a central hub of all R&D activities in organisation. Here I was exposed to different site problems (Power plants), I have to cooperate with seniors in solving these problems using different tools used for desining and monitoring of machineries.I had also given presentations in national confrences giving solutions to problems faced in Hydro power plants and Artificial Neural Networks for continuous monoring of machineries.

Hey, I am from a middle class family so would be fully dependant on loans and schols.

I am confused that whether to go for MBA marketing as i have a good penchant for marketing. As my current work ex is of technical works.

Would my chances of getting in a good B school be hindered
because of this????

I would definetely go for GMAT if you could tell me that it (my technical work ex) will not be problem for me for getting Marketing in B schools.(especially U.S.)

i am writing this post in hurry , so don't mind typing errors.

Do reply,
Regards

Dear Rahul,

Your previous work experience does not preclude you from focusing on marketing in business school. What is important is for you to determine how business school will facilitate your career change and be able to articulate that in your essays. The schools will expect you to provide a plan from your current experience to your career career goals and how the MBA fits into that plan. So if you are serious about making a career change, then it would probably be worth spending some time researching business schools and marketing careers to confirm the direction you want to take your career.

Good luck,
Lisa
