Hower, the arguement omits important conerns that must be addressed to substanciate it. The statement that the unchecked inflow of illegal immigrants can harm a country's economy and its national identity does not constitute a logical arguement in favor of autonomy; and it certainly does not provide support or proof fir the premise in the author's arguement in this passage.
First, the arguement assumes that illegal immigrants do not support the local economy of the city that come to. Many southern US states see a large influx of Mexican immigrants that work in jobs that are more ofen not acceptable for local residents. Jobs that involve manual labor or janitorial work. The illegal immigrants are more than happy to take up these jobs and help local business be accepting lower wages for their services. Furthermore, in a weak attempt to support this claim, the author claims that the immigrants would endanger the national identity of a country.
Secondly,the arguement never addressed the interaction between the illegal immigrants and the local economies of reagions that see a large number of these settlers. On one hand some may argue that illeglal immigrants take away jobs that would be done by citizens. On the other hand, it is a highly known fact that most illegal immigrants work in jobs that are not filled by locals and those that pay significantly below minimum wage.
Finally, if illegal immigrants pose a legitimate threat to national security then the author's view of efforts being made to return them to their country of origin is accurate. However, the author does not address as to what would happen if the illegal immigrants were never caught at the border.
In conclusion, since the author's arguement leaves out several key issues discussed in my essay ,the arguement is not sound or persuasive. If the author included these items instead of solely explaining the effect of illegal immigration on the autonomy and national identity of a country the arguement would have been more through and convincing.
