(1) 10 + x = 20 + y or x - y = 10, which clearly implies that x > y; SUFFICIENT.

(2) x² > y²
If x = -4, y = -3, then x² = 16 and y² = 9, but here x < y.
If x = 4, y = 3, then x² = 16 and y² = 9; here x > y.
No definite answer; NOT sufficient.

The correct answer is A.
