Please evaluate

by older_guy » Wed Dec 10, 2008 10:05 pm
I just took my GMAT yesterday and would love an honest opinion on my chances at Kellogg. I would be enrolling in the part-time program that starts June ’09. Here is my profile:

GMAT = 710, Essay 5.5
AGE = 37 years old
GMAT = Male
ORIGIN = Hispanic
EDUCATION = DeVry University (Chicago)
DEGREE = B.S. Business Administration/Finance
GPA = 3.61/4
WORK EXPERIENCE = 7 years as a real estate agent
1 year as a data analyst

Does my age hurt me? If I can’t get in Kellogg I will apply to Depaul. Since I’m married with a child I have to stay local.

Thanks

Hi O.G.

Thanks for your post. Curious, are you applying to the full-time program or part-time? While its hard to evaluate your candidacy based on your GMAT and GPA... to be quite honest - I do think that it might be difficult to get admissions as an older candidate.

As you probably know, this year is going to be extremely difficult to get admission into a top program and while your age will not be a 'deal-breaker', it will count significantly against your candidacy.

Regards,

N

Thanks for the response.

It would be for the part-time program. If I can't get into Kellogg my second choice will be DePaul.

To add to Nikhil's response, you should definitely articulate why you are choosing this point in your career to pursue an MBA. It will help your case if your decision is well thought out and your goals are clear.
