Hi!

I'm a 27 year old female.

GMAT: 660 (third time) - 47 (M) and 35 (V)

Work experience:
1 1/2 years in benefits consulting
3 1/2 in corporate deferred compensation at a financial services company

Undergrad:
Graduated in 3 1/2 years with double major in Economics and Mathematics/Statistics
3.35 GPA at state school

Want to get an MBA for career change into working with non-profit organizations (consulting non-profits)

Extracurriculars include:
directing an ESL program that I hope to establish as a nonprofit
served as a volunteer leader for a youth non-profit organization for 2 years

Consider applying to:
USC
UC Berkeley
NYU
Columbia

Are my chances good to get into the schools I've listed? I'd prefer not to take the GMATs again since I had taken it twice before with no GMAT prep course and thus the lower scores for the first two tries.

Any insight would be helpful!

Dear jh2010,

While there are some interesting aspects to your profile, I think your chances at the four schools you note are small--but not impossible. It will greatly depend on how strong your essays, recommendations, resume and interviews are on whether or not you are ultimately admitted at any of these programs. Your GMAT is below average for these schools, and possibly outside the mid-80% range for a couple, which is not an ideal place to be. Your GPA is about at the average for most of these schools, so it is not mitigating the GMAT for you. Thus you need to demonstrate through your resume and essays that you can succeed in the program based on your career track record. I also strongly encourage you to identify 2-3 schools where your chances are greater and have the curriculum/industry connections you seek.
