Age: 27
Gender: Male
Country: Bangladesh
Education: BBA (2003) and MBA (part time - 2006) from IBA, Dhaka University
Job experience: working in leasing industry since June, 2003
Responsibilities: Relationship manager. Includes marketing of leasing and loan products, credit-worthiness appraisal of the clients, loan documentation and monitoring.
Gmat: 690 (Q47, V38) AWA: still waiting results
TOEFL: 112 IBT
Weaknesses:
1. oral communication skill below average
2. No mentionable extracurricular activity
Other facts:
1. Will go to USA in immigrant visa by June, 2009
2. Want to pursue MBA to start career in finance field (e.g. investment banking)
3. Will sit for CFA level 1 in June, 2010 (expecting to pass in one go)

Given the facts, I want to know which of the top business schools I can aim for, if any. My options so far are:

Tier 1 (apply one): UCLA, USC, UT Austin
Tier 2 (apply any two): Cornell, UVA, Carnegie mellon, kenan flaglar
Tier 3 (apply one): Indiana, Emroy, Georgia Tech, Ohio

Hello,

From the information you've provided, I would conclude that some of the schools you categorize as Tier 1 and 2, such as Cornell and UVA, would be almost beyond reach - I'd consider the others in these categories reaches. I think you should put most of your effort into the schools you consider Tier 3.

On one hand, being from Bangladesh, you would offer diversity. On the other hand, complete lack of extracurriculars could cause the adcoms to question your likely contribution to the program, and it's a terrifically difficult time to transition into investment banking; hiring is down in that area, even for people with direct experience - a fact of which the adcoms are painfully aware as they review applications. Finally, many MBA programs won't consider applicants who already have MBAs. To learn their policy on this point, I suggest contacting the adcoms. Sometimes you can explain why you need a different or new one, and you can still be considered.

Best regards,
