- Been in Alcohol Industry since graduation
1st job
-Employed 3 years
-Promoted from Accountant to Staff Accountant to Senior Accountant
-27% increase in salary in my time there

2nd Job
-Moved away from the strict accounting job into a Senior Budget Analyst Position.
-Currently in this role and have been with the company for almost 1 year.
-Planning on staying in this position until I start a MBA program in Fall 2009

Extracurricular Activities
-Between Work and Studying for the CPA, did not have time to start any community service organizations until early 2008.

Feb 08
-Started volunteering at organization that helps to clothe people for interviews who otherwise couldn’t afford the suits/shirts/slacks/etc.
-Help with intake sales, inventory reduction sales to the public, promoting these events.
-I am starting to get involved in Marketing Aspect to further promote the organization to get name out to Chicago community.

Mar 08
- Joined Affiliated Organization of a famous Children’s Hospital in Chicago.
- Task is to raise money for the children’s playroom. Raise 25K+ per year.
- 1 big silent auction event is held each year where bulk of money is raised.
- Logistics chair for the event – need to coordinate everything so it runs smoothly and also decide how all the different pieces of the event will fit together. Event will take place in late fall 2008.

2006 – Current – Been part of various sporting leagues through both Chicago community as well as through work. Participated mainly in softball and flag football.

College Social Fraternity – Held Positions of:
-Assistant Rush Chair
-Assistant Philanthropy Chair
-Pursar - In charge of collecting all money from fraternity members – rent checks/slush funds, as well as maintaining the slush fund
-Exchequer - In charge of creating the yearly budget, writing all checks, meeting with each Executive Board Member to go over their budget. Had a 100K+ budget

College Business Fraternity – Beta Alpha Psi –
-Went to meetings with Keynote speakers on a regular basis and participated in community service activities

-Backpacked through Europe, Love to Cook, Die Hard Cubs Fan, Currently Learning Spanish, Grew up with exposure to both Catholic and Jewish Religions/Heritage.

Desired Future Goals
Looking to go to a MBA school and have a major/concentration in Strategy.

Want to go into Strategy Consulting and work my way up the corporate ladder to an eventual CEO position with a mid – large company

Recommendations
One from current direct boss (Just Received his MBA) and one from past boss who currently is a Director in my old company. Neither have an MBA from any of the Target Schools.

Contact with Schools before Applications
-Planning on going to the schools to visit the campuses and go on the guided tours.
-Also planning on attending any MBA Fairs in the area that include any of my target schools.
-Considering sending an email to the admissions dept. for each of the target schools and introducing myself and asking if there is someone there to answer some questions I have.


Please let me know if my Target Schools are within Reach and if there is anything I can currently do to improve my chances of landing in my desired schools.

Dear jmhoward21,

I think you have the foundation to be competitive--now you need to pull it together with strong essays, interview, etc. It appears you are doing all you need to do and your plans to contact the schools are also good ideas. The more you can associate a person with your application than just a name, the better that will be for you. You are on the right path; you just need to get started.
