Please evaluate my profile

Hello,

I plan to take the GMAT in November 2012 and am targeting a score of somewhere in the region of 730. Can you please tell me if my profile would be suitable for admission to one of the top 10 US MBA schools. My details are below:

Nationality : Indian
Age: 26

Undergratuate: Bachelors in Engineering (3.2 GPA), among the top 10% students in my batch
Postgraduate: MBA from the Indian Institute of Management (the best B Schools in India), among the top 5 students of my batch (3.4 GPA)

Work Experience: I have worked as an Investment banking analyst at HSBC Bangalore for 2 years. Of these 2 years I have spent a couple of months in HSBC London and have worked with quite a few clients. I have significant deal experience at my level, having been involved heavily on several deals (case in point the IPO of Samsonite in Hong Kong last year, the takeover of Benetton by their parent company and advising several PEs on various buy out attempts). Have sat in on numerous client meetings and have handled projects that have required coordinating analysts in 3 countries. Regularly ranked among the top analysts of my batch, I have got the strongest possible rating given out to analysts at my level in both years of my employment. I have also won a few awards at HSBC including one that is given out to the strongest analyst in a quarter and have been part of the best team in a couple of quarters

Extracurriculars: Asia level quizzer during school (I have won a couple of intra organisation quizzing awards), strong debater having won several regional championships (currently the debating champion of HSBC Bangalore).
Finalist in the Al Gore Sustainable Technology Competition (Carnegie Mellon University) - India Chapter (the same plan won several awards at major BSchools across India)

Post my MBA, I would like to work in consulting for some time before trying to start my own venture of a sustainable vineyard (based on the idea that I developed with a few teammates for the Carnegie Mellon competition)

I would like to get an MBA at this stage of my career because even though I already have a diploma in Management (the IIMs, despite being the premier BSchools in India do not give out an MBA), yet I went into BSchool too early, without any work experience. Though I learned a lot theoritically, I could not match it up with professional experience to really get value out of the program. Now 2 years hence, I am ready to build on my corporate learning. Also, the international exposure that a US BSchool will provide me, will be much more suited to my ultimate aim of developing my own venture (in terms of seed capital/ venture funding as well as clientele).

Can you please let me know whether my profile would be good enough to get admission in one of the top 10 US business schools. I would be very grateful if you could please point out the specific schools that I might target.

Many thanks in advance.

Dear Arpan,
Your work experience seems rather strong, and the international bit in London definitely will help you stand out from the pool of others who lack this international experience. Plus you work for a very recognizable big name firm, which of course is a big bonus.

I have some hesitations about your goals, because the short term goals don't lead into the long term goals in any logical manner, so I think they need to be rethought a bit. But that's okay, you have plenty of time to strategize that later on.

What is key now is of course that you do land that 730 that you are hoping for. With a 720+ you have a shot, with less, it becomes a bit tougher.
