I am strongly evaluating going to business school. I feel the time is right and I am ready for the challenge.
Do I have a decent chance of getting into U Chicago GSB or Kellogg?

GMAT: 700. retaking and hope to get 730. I got a 6/6 on writing
Experience: Own and Operate my own educational service company (tutoring business) + mathematics of finance consultant for someone at Board of Trade
Recommendation: One from U Chicago Alumni.
Education: B.S and M.S in physics and astronomy (double major) from U of MD(2001, gpa 3.2 major gpa 3.5) and U of Illinois Urbana Champaign (2004 gpa 3.5)
I think I will do well on my essays.
I have taught several need based students for free as part of my volunteer work. I have one publication in astrophysics.

I want to apply part time not full time.
my story: use quantitative and communication skills to do finance in the short run.
start my own company in the long run.

do you think i even have a shot?

thank you very much

Dear kurt0419,

I do think you have a shot. Your profile is competitive and you have interesting entrepreneurial experience. The key will be how well you present your candidacy in the application. I also encourage you to visit the schools and try to meet with current students/alumni for insight into what the school looks for in its part-time students.

Good luck,
Lisa

I definitely plan on going to visit the schools and attending an open house.
