Placement rumours in UK/USA after Brexit and Trump

Post Wed Jun 28, 2017 5:10 am
Hi All,

Can you please help me with the placements news of foreign students in UK/USA after the Brexit and Trump's Visa policy rule.

I hail from India and as per the consensus of majority people, chances of getting job after MBA is a big issue among students.

I just need the correct and verified information on the placements being carried out in the top universities for the foreign students and also if anyone could help with these rumours about getting job in these major territories.

Thanks and Regards,
Raman

Hi Raman,

Certainly a valid concern that is shared widely among international candidates we speak to. As some have pointed out, most of the hard data remains to be seen, but my recommendation would be to reach out directly to the admissions office at each school you are interested in applying to. I guarantee you won't be the first to ask and they will likely have some information and possibly resources to direct you to.

I also encourage you to reach out as there is "strength in numbers" of course, and the more schools are hearing from concerned candidates, the more likely they are to remain active in the greater conversation with the powers that be.

Here is a relevant article that one of my trusted colleagues penned recently: https://aringo.com/a-decrease-in-asian-mba-applicants-to-top-us-business-schools-due-to-trumps-expected-immigration-policies/

Good luck!
Michelle @ ARINGO

Womp womp... this is a valid concern for sure. What I would do is simply, contact the admissions offices of the schools you're interested in. They will definitely give you the response that they've "practiced" but then you can take that information and start asking others. Reaching out to current students is NEVER A BAD IDEA.

Hi Raman,
Your concerns are shared by all the international students. The best way to get a clear picture would be to talk to some of the current students and ask them for their opinion. As they are or will be going in the recruitment cycle very soon. Any official figures may take 1 to 2 years to publish. Meanwhile you can also check your target school's employment reports. They will also shed some light on last year's class.
General opinion is that it will be difficult to get a job post MBA specially if you're not from Top 20 B-schools. Hope this helps. Good Luck.

Best,

Raman, I think there are still opportunities even amidst the uncertainty and rumors. Here are some articles to read on the topic: http://poetsandquants.com/2017/03/01/mbas-likely-get-h1b-visa/ and even this article https://e-gmat.com/blog/uncategorized/changes-potential-applicants
There may be some unexpected opportunities- it is a time of uncertainty so no one can say for sure. But at the AIGAC conference I attended last year it seemed most schools were very satisfied with prospects for international students. I was very impressed with UCLA's career management center and resources for international students so you might look there to learn more.
