the second phrase seems to modify the noun malaria...
isn't it
while choice C clearly states that
people who inherit x seem to be resistant to y and have .....
this looks more idiomatic to me and sounds good!

People who inherit the sickle cell anemia gene from only one parent seem to be resistant to malaria, an evolutionary advantage modifies the whole previous clause and the one in the spoiler is an essential modifier.

Consider this example

Charlie didn't get the job in administration, which really surprised his friends. - Here which really surprised modifies the entire clause. Ours is also similar to that - an evolutionary advantage modifies the entire clause 'People seem to be resistant to malaria'

You cannot consider malaria alone as 'resistant to malaria' is a prepositional phrase if I am right.

IMO C and D are out in first go itself - here is why:

C) People ...seem to be resistant to malaria and (People..) have (why is the object). People have WHAT? It lacks an object; Note, HAVE is followed by COMMA that shows start of a modifier and that means things mentioned after comma is not object of HAVE. This issue is present in C/D/E

D) in addition to point mentioned in C, here SEEMINGLY is not correct (same issue with B)

D) it changes the meaning as well (note the use of TO BE RESISTANT - that is going to happen to people)
