PDF800 SET2

by zozo123 » Tue Jul 31, 2007 5:40 am
What is the hundreds digit of the integer z?

(1) 10z = 93,120

(2) z rounded to the nearest hundred is 9,300.

A. Statement (1) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (2) alone is not sufficient.
B. Statement (2) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (1) alone is not sufficient.
C. BOTH statements TOGETHER are sufficient, but NEITHER statement ALONE is sufficient.
D. EACH statement ALONE is sufficient.
E. Statements (1) and (2) TOGETHER are NOT sufficient.

My explanation goes like this

10z = 93120 ===> z = 9312
Hence, the hundred's digit = 3

Am I making any mistake?
Moderators please help.

by the way. whats the source of this problem?

Thanks
the source (see attached file)
chatekar is right.

The answer is (A), if the LHS of the eq is considered multiplication, as in

10 * z = 93120
z = 9312
100's digit = 1, so (1) is sufficient alone

I don't see how the answer could be (E). Anyone?
