Past perfect : use when one past event comes another past event.

Not sure. My ear says it isn't right.


Aah. Wikipedia says that past perfect serves only to place a narration in the "more distant past", without determining its particular time or duration, as follows: "He had risen early that morning and had drunk coffee earlier than usual."

I know that GMAT doesn't recognize this.

Any comments ? I am a native speaker. Not sure if the sentence is grammatically right. Please help!

For "He had risen early that morning and had drunk coffee earlier than usual." the correct sentence should be "He had risen early that morning and drunk coffee earlier than usual." because later event should be in simple past..........................
