answer should be A
the shortest distance between two parrallel lines is given by a line segment perpendicular to given lines so as the angle approaches 90,, the distance decreases.

st 1: x>y, hence segment with x is smaller...ignoring anples greater than 90 as it is given that each is not greater than 90
st 2:not sufficient
