Hi sorry I had missed out a word in option B and C, so please can you read it again and tell me your answer....

Even I had chosen D, but the correct answer is C. The explanation given here is ' Apart from the word doers that breaks parallel construction rule, the sentence is grammatically correct though slightly longwinded. Only option C corrects both these flaws. Hence C.

So I still want to figure out how come its right...

i also chose D...only reason why C could be the answer is the placement of essentially...

"being" doesn't make a choice automatically wrong. you should only eliminate "being" when a better and correct choice is present.

A is not parallel b/c "the doer [of] evil and the defender of good"

B is not grammatically wrong, but "similar" changes the meaning

C's "being" may be problematic, but don't eliminate it yet.

D's second half is a little confusing with the conjunctions:
you can read it this way: the interlocutors are (the good and the evil) or (the doer of evil and the defender of good.)
or you can also interpret it this way: the interlocutors are (the good and the evil or the doer of evil) and (the defender of good.)
you can argue that nobody would ever read it the second way, but because grammatically it can be done, the structure causes ambiguity.

E "essence" and "good, evil" changes the meaning.

So go back to C. What's wrong with it? other than "being" is a little awkward nothing else. So out of all 5, C is the lesser evil. Only eliminate "being" when another choice is clearly the winner.

i think C is right...placement of essentially is the reason...D changes the meaning...
