In comparing Freud’s view of human behavior to those of B.F. Skinner, one notes vast differences in their explanations of human actions and motivations, but certain similarities in the comprehensiveness and ultimate inflexibility of their approaches

a) In comparing Freud’s view of human behavior to those of B.F. Skinner,
b) In comparing Freud’s view of human behavior to B.F. Skinner,
c) In comparing Freud’s view of human behavior with those of B.F. Skinner,
d) In comparing Freud’s and B.F. Skinner’s view of human behavior,
e) In comparing Freud’s view of human behavior with B.F. Skinner’s,

IMO E
a and c rejected because of use of 'those' view is singular.
d) Freud's and Skinner's form plural subject but view is singular.
b)Freud's view of human behavior should be compared with B.F. Skinner's view and not with Skinner.

Hi,
I think both are correct.
First example is straight forward.. comparison between possessive forms.
Second one: Federer's serve = serve of Federer
So, if we rewrite, we get
Serve of Federer is better than that(serve) of Nadal.
Cheers!

IMO D, Looking for someone to explain why choices are wrong and why.
I am not an Expert, please feel free to suggest if there is an error.

b) In comparing Freud’s view of human behavior to B.F. Skinner, comparing view and Skinner - out.
c) In comparing Freud’s view of human behavior with those of B.F. Skinner, out
d) In comparing Freud’s and B.F. Skinner’s view of human behavior, looks like they both have the same view, but they do not.
e) In comparing Freud’s view of human behavior with B.F. Skinner’s, - correct.

a) In comparing Freud’s view of human behavior to those of B.F. Skinner, pronoun error (that should be used)
b) In comparing Freud’s view of human behavior to B.F. Skinner, View is being compared to B.F. Skinner
c) In comparing Freud’s view of human behavior with those of B.F. Skinner, Same as A
d) In comparing Freud’s and B.F. Skinner’s view of human behavior, compound Subject with the use of and so we should use views and not view
e) In comparing Freud’s view of human behavior with B.F. Skinner’s, This is the correct answer

So the answer should be E.

Initially picked D. But now inclined towards E.

I see two reasons, from posts above, for eliminating D.

Are there any more reasons?

the answer is E.

Skinner,
incorrect - "view" is singular while "those" is plural

b) In comparing Freud’s view of human behavior to B.F. Skinner,
incorrect - here you're comparing freud's view of human behavior with b.f. skinner -- the dude

c) In comparing Freud’s view of human behavior with those of B.F. Skinner,
incorrect - again, "view" is singular while "those" is plural

d) In comparing Freud’s and B.F. Skinner’s view of human behavior,
incorrect - "freud's and b.f. skinner's view" implies that they have one view of human behavior, and it is the same view. sort of. for this to be correct, you'd actually have to say "freud and b.f. skinner's view," because when two people own one thing you only put the possessive after the second person's name.

e.g. ron's and sarah's car is a corvette > incorrect
ron and sarah's car is a corvette > correct
ron and sarah's cars are silver > correct IF there is more than one car, and ron and sarah jointly own ALL of the cars
ron's and sarah's cars are silver > correct IF there is more than one car, and ron and sarah do not jointly own all of the cars

e) In comparing Freud’s view of human behavior with B.F. Skinner’s,
correct - this is the only answer that compares freud's view with b.f. skinner's (view)
