Two angles of measure A are of course equal. One angle should probably be renamed angled C. Then (2) can be changed so there is no ambiguity.

Of course (1) is sufficient, but the problem is just worded poorly for (2).

Yeah.. that's what I felt.. it's not that this is a toughie.. its just that I just didnt like this question coz of the way the angles are names and then statement #2..

I guess the answer should be D since the sum of A and B is 180 => that the horizontal lines are parallel => both the A's are of same angle... :)

yup.. that's right.. somehow the OA given is A.. it says:

Q1. Answer: A
Explanation: The angles on either side of a line crossing parallel lines are
equal; 2 is true but is not relevant to the question.

I will go with A....

A says lines are II...hence angles are equal...

Second statement does nt tells us much so out...

remember the diagrams in gmat are not not drawn to perfection unless specified....in this case the lines may or may not be parallel.

Definitely not D. B simply stating that the top line is a straight line, that's all. It tells you nothing of the relationship with the other line. I think that the reason it is misleading is because they use A for both values. Just think about it, if you do not know whether the lines are paralell, the bottom A can be just about any value between 0 and 180.

Either way, this is a stupid question because it should at least use different letters for the angles in question.

Yes, this question isn't worth spending any time on. The question simply asks "Is A equal to A?" You clearly don't need any extra information to answer that; you don't even need the diagram. No doubt they intended the two angles labeled 'A' to be labeled using different letters, but as written, the question doesn't make any sense as a GMAT question. Where is it from?
