In C, there is wrong comparison. Let me write the sentence.paridhi wrote: I have a query on this rule Possessive Pronouns can refer back to ONLY Possessive nouns.. The sentence here is trying to compare the nations-Latvia and Lithuania, with Estonia's economy which is wrong.
The sentence would have been correct if it clearly stated the economies in the starting phrase. I am not sure though.
(I want others to correc t me if i am wrong)
Unlike the economy of its fellow Baltic nations, Latvia and Lithuania, Estonia's economy grew at an astonishing rate in the late 1990s, and at the end of the decade they were placed on the fast track to join the european union.
Also, I have a query here for other readers. Would the sentence be right if it stated
Unlike that of its fellow Baltic nations, Latvia and Lithuania, Estonia's economy grew at an astonishing rate in the late 1990s, and at the end of the decade they were placed on the fast track to join the european union.

"In that":
"In that" is a conjunction that means "inasmuch as". "In that" has largely gone out of use. It is considered stilted and overly formal.
Avoid such usage when a better word is available.

When "doubt" is used in a NEGATIVE CONTEXT such as "there is NO doubt" OR "he does NOT doubt", it should be followed by "that".
In other contexts, "whether"/"If" should be used to introduce a clause following "doubt".
E.g: I doubt whether he will come.
