Pam and Ed are in a line to
purchase tickets. How many people
are in the line?
(1) There are 20 people behind Pam
and 20 people in front of Ed.
(2) There are 5 people between Pam
and Ed.

Clearly the two statements are insufficient individually.
The combination of the two statements is tricky.

Here's a hint:
Lets say,
(1)There are 3 people behind Pam
and 3 people in front of Ed.
(2)There are 1 people between Pam
and Ed.

I have changed the values to make it clearer

On the combining the two statements, the are two arrangements possible
Case 1:
X X X Ed X Pam X X X
Case 2:
X Pam X Ed X

Hence, insufficient
