Page limitation in Times

The following notice was received by Jade Davis, an entrepreneur.

"We regret that your press release cannot be accepted. Page limitations in the Times force the editor to return many worthy and well-written press releases."

All of the following may be inferred from the information above, EXCEPT

(A) only well-written press releases were accepted for publication
(B) Davis's press release was considered to be well-written
(C) Davis's press release was found to be too long for the Times
(D) Davis's press release was considered to be worthy of publication
(E) writing was not the only factor in deciding which press releases to publish

OA : E

my guess was A ; thought OA can be safely inferred from the passage.

My answer is E. A can be inferred. B thru D can be inferred as well. For B and D, especially, those can be considered by Davis. However, E can't be inferred from the information given with the question statement.

Brother Duke..

it is quite evident that... if writing is the only factor then, whatever happens the press will publish it...
think Ronnie's article on use of steriods is very well written, now if writing is the only criteria,,, my article would be published whatever happens( removing somebody's articles or so )

A: MAKES SENSE

ok.. this is an intriguing one..
"We regret that your press release cannot be accepted. Page limitations in the Times force the editor to return many worthy and well-written press releases."
We can derive the following information from the above argument

INFERENCES
1. Author's article was well written
2. Article was not included owing to limitation on the number of pages
3. Well written articles do get printed in the paper
4. Many well written articles (like that of the author) do not get printed (reasoning same as number 2)

All these CAN be inferred

We need to find what CANNOT be inferred.

Now we'll do a simple exercise - we'll give choices A to E numbers depending upon under which inference do they fall.

(A) only well-written press releases were accepted for publication
INFERENCE 3 (but 'only' is a limiting factor so we keep this aside)

(B) Davis's press release was considered to be well-written
INFERENCE 1

(C) Davis's press release was found to be too long for the Times
INFERENCE 2

(D) Davis's press release was considered to be worthy of publication
INFERENCE 1

(E) writing was not the only factor in deciding which press releases to publish
INFERENCE ----- ???

I don't see our argument talking about any other factors but writing in our "Notice" above.

imo E

Choice A can still be inferred but there is just no information AT ALL to infer choice E.

I think choice E can be inferred. The argument says that Jade Davis's article got rejected due to page limitations, that means it was too lengthy. Hence this implies that length of the article was also another factor that was considered by the editor.

A on the other hand, says that only well written passages are accepted. As ronnie pointed out if Davis's press release was well written, then it would not have got rejected even if it was lengthy. The word 'only' makes A a very strong premise which is not supported by argument.

So I feel A is a better option.

Well E can definitely be inferred. It says writing was 'not the only factor' .. as opposed to option A which says "only well written publications" . A is a tad too strong I guess. Is the OA E ?

This is inference except question. So i feel the answer is A as it cannot be inferred . E can clearly be inferred. So it is not the answer.
