Overlap between OG 11 and Gmat prep?

I recently started my 2nd gmat prep practice exam. It was my first after finishing all of the OG 11 quant questions.

In the first 8 questions I saw 2 repeats from the OG guide. I was under the impression that GMATprep tests had no repeats from the OG guide. Was that wrong?

I stopped the exam and plan to restart it in hopes that I do not see any repeats.

Any thoughts or experience with this?

The GMATPrep cats do have questions that you will also find in the OG11 book - that's just the way it is. The only guarantee GMAC provides is that the 3 OG books (11, verbal, quant) have no overlaps.

If you come across a repeat during the cat, try to attack the problem as though it were new and take the full 2 minute duration. By doing so, you can at least minimize the time advantage you'd have if you just answered it immediately with the correct answer.

Do you happen know if there is any overlap between the Powerprep exams and the OG11 guide?

I am thinking of using them to tune up in my last week before the exam.

Yes there PowerPrep exams actually have just as much if not more overlap.

The Powerprep exams are pretty old and weren't truly adaptive, not like the current test, so I wouldn't really bother with them.

Thanks Guys!

I seemed to be getting a ton of repeats from OG 11 on two attempts with the GMAT prep software this week so I stopped the tests ( like 3 out of the first 8 questions). I didn't use the powerprep either. I did however use the both GMATpreps earlier in my studies and saw much improvement so I am still pleased.

As I had already finished all of my Kaplan exams and wanted to take an exam in my last week I went out and bought a PR book to gain access to their tests. Finished up on a strong note with a score that was in line with my best Kaplan and GMATprep scores so I am excited to write the exam on Thursday!

What makes you think the PowerPrep tests aren't 'truly adaptive'? They have a smaller question pool than GMATPrep (or a real GMAT), and in particular have fewer difficult questions, but that doesn't mean the tests are not adaptive. PowerPrep also includes simulated diagnostic questions, which can make the test appear non-adaptive- you can get easy (diagnostic) questions even if you're doing very well.

Because PowerPrep contains real (retired) GMAT questions, it is quite useful to attempt if you can get it- I'd say it's more useful than the old paper tests, which are also worthwhile. Still, GMATPrep is certainly much more useful than PowerPrep. The main problem with PowerPrep is the amount of overlap it has with the OG, and the shortage of questions at the highest difficulty level.
