Over 75 percent of the energy

by kvcpk » Fri Jun 18, 2010 2:49 am
Over 75 percent of the energy produced in France derives from nuclear power, while in Germany it is just over 33 percent.
A. while in Germany it is just over 33 percent
B. compared to Germany, which uses just over 33 percent
C. whereas nuclear power accounts for just over 33 percent of the energy produced in Germany
D. whereas just over 33 percent of the energy comes from nuclear power in Germany
E. compared with the energy from nuclear power in Germany, where it is just over 33 percent

I had absolutely no clue where to begin from.. atleast 3 options looked good to me.. A,C,E.

Please let me know how to approach this question in detail.. Thank you!!

No idea. But I have seen other people doing it. I don't think Ron should have any issue as long as we credit him for that explanation. :D

Thanks for cross-posting this one Hardik! I have to agree with kvcpk - Ron's SC explanations are sooooo spot-on in terms of giving concrete stuff to grab on, understand & then implement! Gotta love him!

I do npot think Ron has clarified why D is wrong, there is vague explanation for D. Its not clear why D is wrong, check again before coming to conclusion.

Option C: 33 percent of the energy produced in Germany
option D: 33 percent of the energy comes from nuclear power in Germany.

Read both sentence few times, you will be able to spot meaning difference. In first non underlined clause of the original question, it says that SOURCE OF 75+% of energy PRODUCED in france is NUCLEAR POWER,[option C] whereas NUCLEAR POWER is the SOURCE of 33 percent of the energy produced in Germany

option D means: 33% of energy(could be only produced or produced by borrowed from neighbouring country, etc.)

I hope this makes sense

Thanks
