Originally found in parasites belonging to the order of kineto- plastids, DNA base "J", an unusual minor base known as the only hyper-modified DNA base in eukaryotes and that resembles thymine, has been proven to control antigenic variation; exist in the DNA of euglenids, evidence for a close relation between kinetoplastids and euglenids; and cause certain severe diseases.

they say that past participles (in our case-known) can be || to present participles that act as adjectives (here-resembling)
this issue is very often tested in Gmat

D would be correct if 'it' was not present.
(D)that is known as the only hyper-modified DNA base in eukaryotes and it resembles

I mean,
(F) that is known as the only hyper-modified DNA base in eukaryotes and resembles

Is it correct? Any thoughts?

In Op F which u suggested, a THAT is required after "and" for THAT and THAT parallelism. we can not assume THAT after and as we do with auxiliary verbs and the word TO. Hence OP F is again violates parallelism.

Thanks
