operation "*"

by sanju09 » Fri May 21, 2010 4:22 am
The operation "*" represents either addition, subtraction, or multiplication of integers, what is the value of 1*0?

(1) 0*2 = 2.

(2) 2*0 = 2.

From 1,
0*2 = 2 this is possible only for 0+2..so '*' is addition and 1*0=1...sufficient

From 2
2*0 = 2..this is possible for both addition(2+0) and subtraction(2-0)...but for both cases 1*0=1 sufficient

Ans option D

A alone is suffcient
i.0+2 =2
O*2 or 0-2 is not = to 2: A is sufficient
ii. 2+0=2-0=2, B is not sufficient

(1) 0*2 = 2.
(2) 2*0 = 2.

1) 0*2 = 2 here * has to be +. so 1*0 = 1 Sufficient.

2) 2*0 = 2 here * can be + or - .
1*0 is still 1 , whether * is + or -.
Sufficient.
