Open Office attachments not allowed!

by simplyjat » Tue Jun 03, 2008 9:08 pm
I tried uploading open office document files and got an error saying attachment not allowed. Kindly add open office document extensions (ods, odt) in the list of allowed extensions.

Thanks simplyjat for the suggestion--to clarify:

'ods' is equivalent to Word doc, and
'odt' is equivalent to PowerPoint?

Just want to make sure I understand these file types first--appreciate your input!

I think best is to only support images. As not many people on the forum will be able to open open office documents.

Can you open Open Office docs in Microsoft Office? I thought you could...

simplyjat: Can you save documents in Microsoft Office formats instead? That might be more universally accessible for this community...

Microsoft is incorporating the OpenDocument format and it is being standardized by ISO. And if ISO standardization is not universally acceptable it don't know what is universally acceptable...

ODT = open document text ~ word document
ODS = open document spreadsheet ~ excel document.

OpenOffice is not as widely used as Word. Not to mention most users seem to attach the image to a doc and upload the doc. I'd like to see them add the image directly to the post. Its a pain having to download the doc file and then open it to see the Q.

Doesn't ODS give you the option to export to PDF? BTG allows pdf files and pdf was invented to allow portability ( and prevent changes but that doesn't work  )

I have added .rtf types of files. Now files can be uploaded in rtf format.

It's as good as classic MS word doc & the best part of rtf is you can use it even when you dont have MS Office software.
These files also open in Linux operating systems.
