If x and y are going to leave the same remainders when divided by an integer(in this problem 8) then any integer mutiplied to x and y (i.e thier mutiples) will also leave the same remainder
Eg: x=2 x/8 = rem 2 y=10 y/8 = rem 2
3*2 = 6 / 8 rem -- 6 3*10 = 30 / 8 rem - 6
