Average speed = Total Distance / Total Time

Total Distance = (x + y) miles
Total Time = (x/30 + y/40) hours

Thus, Average speed = (x + y) / (x/30 + y/40)

We have to determine whether (x + y) / (x/30 + y/40) > 35

Upon solving (x + y) / (x/30 + y/40) > 35, we get y/x > 4/3. Only Statement B is sufficient.

The correct answer: B
