In recent years cattle breeders have increasingly used crossbreeding, in part that their steers should acquire certain characteristics and partly because crossbreeding is said to provide hybrid vigor.

(A) in part that their steers should acquire certain characteristics
(B) in part for the acquisition of certain characteristics in their steers
(C) partly because of their steers acquiring certain characteristics
(D) partly because certain characteristics should be acquired by their steers
(E) partly to acquire certain characteristics in their steers

What is wrong with option
B;
In part also means partly

Hi hemant_rajput,

In response to your original question, this sentence includes a 2-part parallel phrase:

partly.....partly....

Since you can't change the second "partly", you'll have to change the first (from "in part" to "partly"). This is the primary reason why answer B is incorrect.

I think answer would be D.

Partly because.....and partly because....is in parallelism.
Also, partly to acquire (Option E) is not in sync with partly because crossbreeding..

Guys I'm not asking why correct is correct but I'm asking why wrong is wrong. :-)
