if a square region has area x, what is the length of its diagonal in terms of x?

a. root x

b.root 2x

c.2 root x

d. x root 2

e. 2x

qa is b

however when plugging in numbers i cant see why d is wrong?

Let X = 25

The Side = 5
and Diagonal = 5Root2

However, the question says Diagonal in terms of the area so
D = Root(25*2) = Root 2X

P.s. i fell for the trap too :D

for me its more of a formula than anything else..

For a square..

Area = s^2 ( where "S" is the side ) and
diagonal is sqrt 2 * S

thus if the area is X . it means side is rt X
and diagonal is rt 2* rt X

which is

sqrt (2X)..

hence B .. hope that helps..

(A) √x
(B) √(2x)
(C) 2√x
(D) x√2
(E) 2x
We can create the following equation:

side^2 = x

side = √x

To calculate the diagonal of a square, multiply its side by √2.

So, the diagonal = (√x)(√2) = √(2x).

Answer: B
