Sentence correction is best handled by reading the original sentence and looking for the errors that we know GMAT test writers are instructed to test for. In this case, the phrase "each other" is clearly incorrect. It is used when only two entities are involved and are performing a reciprocal action. In this case, we know that there are a large number of tribes involved. With this information, we can eliminate choices (A) and (D).

What differences do we find among the remaining three choices? One choice offer the phrase "in return for" whereas the others offer the phrase "as a return on." The first phrase means "in exchange for" whereas the second phrase means a gain or return on an investment of some sort. Are we talking about investments or are we talking about dancers providing entertainment in exchange for food, drink, and lodging? Clearly the second.
