One approach:
125% of 5 = (125/100)(5)
= (5/4)(5)
= 25/4
= 6 1/4
= 6.25


Another approach:
125% of 5 = 1.25 x 5 = 6.25

1.25 * 5 =

1*5 + .25*5 =

5 + (1/4)*5 =

5 + 5/4 =

5 + 1.25 =

6.25

This seems more like a drill question in a skillbuilder than an actual GMAT question.

Hi All,

We're asked to find the value of 125% of 5. From the various explanations, you can see that there are a variety of different ways to perform the necessary calculation. Here's another:

Since 1% of 5 = .05, we can multiply this value by 125 to get the result that we're looking for:

(.05)(125) = 6.25

Final Answer: E

125% is 25% increase that is 1.25 multipler. 5*1.25 = 6.25
or 25% = 2*10%+5%

10% of 5 is 0.5 so 20% is .5*2 = 1 5% is 10%/2 which is 0.5/2 = 0.25

125% of 5 = 5+1+0.25 = 6.25

Answer is E
