Ocean waves are actually a circular movement of the water both above and below the surface. Boaters and swimmers see and feel the portion of the wave that is above the surface. As long as the wave is in the deep ocean it will usually not fall in on itself, known as "breaking." When the bottom of the ocean becomes shallower - specifically when the depth of the water is less than 1.3 times the height of the wave - the wave will break. This occurs because the circular motion of the wave below the water cannot continue and the portion of the wave above the surface builds up until it collapses.

If the statements above are true, which of the following can be inferred?

A) Waves occurring in the deeper parts of the ocean are not dangerous because they usually do not break.

B) Shallow water is the only mechanism that causes waves to break.

C) Swimmers and boaters should avoid areas where waves are breaking.

D) It may be possible to estimate the depth of shallow ocean waters based on the height of breaking waves.

E) Waves occurring in freshwater lakes do not reach the same height as waves in the ocean.

Option A :- INCORRECT
This statement voids correctness because the explanation obtained from the given question was that waves occurring in the deep part of the ocean usually undergoes breaking. This may not mean that they are dangerous.

Option B :- INCORRECT
Shallow water is not the only mechanisms responsible for breakages. According to the explanations from option A above, hence the statement in this option is not sufficient when it comes to breaking ocean waves according to the question.

Option C :- INCORRECT
This inference does not give a true reflection of the meaning in the question statement, it was stated that swimmers and see and feel the portion of the wave that is above the surface, therefore logically they also experience the breaking of these waves, hence there is no way it can be avoided.

Option D :- CORRECT
We can successfully bring this action into practice because the scale needed for such calculations has been given specifically because the relationship between the depth of the water and the height of the wave has been given. Hence breaking of wave too is a very good factor that gives an insight about the height of an ocean.

Option E :- INCORRECT
While an ocean is a salt water, a lake is a fresh water . Both are not governed by the same mechanism, since we are not given any information about lakes, it is difficult to arrive at any tangible conclusion.
