NYU Advice

by eraserhead » Sat Nov 24, 2012 10:09 am
Hi I just scored 690(Q49 V34) on GMAT (already took it twice and scored 650 and 640).
I am 31 year old from Serbia having 5 years of post graduate work experience.
2 years of audit (Big4)
2 years as a financial analyst
1 year of consulting in deals department (same Big4 company)

I am involved in various NGO. I was a founding member of one of political parties here, the first president of youth organization and one of the youngest candidates for Serbian parliament 5 years ago. Since then I pursued career in finance instead of politics.

Do you believe that schools such as NYU, UCLA are within my reach?

Thanks for the advice.

I think those schools should be within your reach (and perhaps even better schools)

In my years of working with clients, I have seen that amongst the most attractive profiles for business school are those who come from a political background.

That plus a Big-4 experience should really make you a very strong candidate (depends a bit on exactly WHAT you did in this political platform, as well as how you performed at your Big 4), but overall I think you are off to a great start.

Thank you very much for the response, I just have one more question.

What I wanted to ask you is whether I should emphasise my political activity and include this recommendation with all schools or just those known to be politically oriented to some extent, such as Harvard or Stanford?

Yes. To all schools for sure.
Political involvement always looks very strong.
