If the pages of a term paper were numbered consecutively, with the first page numbered 1, how many pages did the term paper have?

(1) A total of 87 digits were used in numbering the pages

(2) The digit 6 was used only 5 times in numbering the pages.

- my answer was D but OA is A. This does not make sense to me. If anyone knows why please post.

Thanks

(2) is not sufficient because you only know that you have 5 sixes, namely: 6, 16, 26, 36, 46. So you may have any number of pages between 46 and 56.

basically from 2 you can just gather that the number of pages is less than 60..
