Picture a number line:
-2----1---0---1---2
Is -2<y<1?
1) y>-1 pick numbers: y=0 YES -2<y<1; y=5 NO -2<y<1 - Insufficient.
2) y<2 again pick numbers: y=0 YES -2<y<1; y=-3NO -2<y<1 - Insufficient.
Together -1<y<2, again we realise the inequality -2<y<1 is not always true or always false. Insufficient.
