Hi
I came across the following question

XYZ modeled one of his most famous homes on Cheop's Pyramid
Instead of [on] they asked to choose correct option. Confusing choices were
  • after
    like
According to test the correct answer is [after] and incorrect [like]. However i feel correct should be like.

please correct me if i am wrong

I could be totally off here but I will give it a try.

like sounds more contemprary. After works above since the pyramids were built way before the house was constructed.

Just my 2 cents...

Guys, "Modeled After" is an idiom.

If you use "like" the meaning of the sentence would be that XYZ bulit his home something similar like Pyramid but exactly not the same. Modelled signifies that the home was exactly made on the lines of pyramid.
