by divya23 » Wed May 18, 2011 3:10 am
Hi
I am practicing so hard day in and day out and I have given so many mock test but I am unable to cross the 600 mark.It is my first and last chance to beat the GMAT,my exam is in the mid of June and I desperately want to score between 650 and 680 so that I can get into European school.Kindly help me how should I proceed further and what all needs to be done.I am very sad and depressed.I am giving long hours into my studies but output is not as per the expectations.
Also I have heard that main GMAT exam is tough than the the software provided by GMAT PREP.This has made me all the more nervous.Kindly help as I have not much of time left.

Divya -

The actual GMAT is not easy, but you can get a higher score on the actual exam compared to the GMATPrep. A review posted about the same time you wrote this is from someone who scored 40 points higher than on the GMATPrep. At Veritas we have found that on average people actually do score a little higher on the real thing - an average of 10 points or a little more - compared to the GMATPrep.

Now of course some score lower and some score a lot higher so do not be disheartened, you can still do this.

One question? Are you missing problems that you should get right due to some small errors? The GMAT scoring looks down on your missing these types of questions and if you can eliminate the small errors you can move that score considerably.

Do not despair you can make it yet!

I actually get low score due to my silly mistakes.I try to avoid them but still I am unable to curb those silly mistakes.Infact I have noticed that if I get those few questions right I can manage to get 700+.
Can you suggest me how should I get those stupid easy questions right and also I have noticed that I rush into the next questions in a move to complete the test early.
Thanks

I gave one mock test of GROCKIT and scored 670.I am excited because this is for the first time I got this score. But I have my inhibitions to share with you and seek your reply for the same.
1.Are these test by GROCKIT authentic?
2.Compared to my previous mocks that I gave I actually used to get around 25 correct questions of verbal and 23 - 25 correct for quant and used to score b/w 590 - 600,but in this mock I just got 22 questions correct for quant and mere 17 correct for verbal and scored 670.
I wanted to know how is this scoring done on actual GMAT as in should we get maximum rights or what??
I am little perplexed.
Thanks
Divya

Hi Divya

I am not an expert but I believe that Grockit (are nice people lol and) are very lineant when it comes to scoring. I scored 600 on grockit and got only 510 on the real GMAT. Manhattan tests are most accurate.

Cheers

I do not like to comment to directly on other companies, I know that some of the 15 tests that our Veritas students have access to do score a little tougher than the real thing. I have heard that Manhattan can score a little tougher as well. The GMAT Prep is the best predictor but as I have read many times, students will sometimes score much higher than their GMAT Prep score - and for various reasons some times many points lower as well.
