No scrap paper during the Exam???

Hi, I just learned from a friend who had taken the exam in my city that he wasn't given any actual scrap paper for the exam. Instead, he was given this "erasable pad", which was very columpsy and hard to write with.

Is this true for all test centres? Can I request normal paper and pen?

Yes, unfortunately, it's true - you have to use the marker and laminated paper. I'd recommend getting a notebook to practice on before the actual test since it's hard to get used to and pretty weird at first. If you're taking a prep course, no need to buy one - most of the companies will give you one included with your books.

follow up question: you say it's a marker? so the writing is pretty thick compared to a normal pen?

It's a thin tipped dry erase marker -- so thicker than a pen, thinner than the typical whiteboard marker. It's not so bad, I had never practiced with one before taking my test, but it does take some getting used to.
