New York at 8:00 p.m.

by sanju09 » Sat Jul 10, 2010 4:43 am
The time is three hours earlier in California than in New York. If a live sports event that begins in New York at 8:00 p.m. is being shown on television and it ends when it's 7:00 p.m. in California, how long does the event last?

Convert NY 8:00pm to California => 3 hours earlier = 5:00pm

Finished at 7:00pm Cal => 2 hours.

You can think reverse of albatross86's answer:
The time is three hours earlier in California than in New York.
Hence If it is 7:00 PM in California ==> 10:00PM in New York

Game start time : 8:00 PM
Game end time : 10:00 PM

Hence game last for 2 hrs.
Logic is that you have to convert in one timezone. either in California time or in New york time.
