New 'Thanks' Feature

by beatthegmat » Tue Oct 16, 2007 6:49 pm
One of the things I think makes Beat The GMAT unique among GMAT discussion forums is that fact that our members are exceptionally supportive and friendly toward one another.

Now members have a new way to show their appreciation for other members. If you run across a post that seem particularly useful or well written, you can hit the button on the top right of the post and send a 'Thank You' to the user. (See image below)

After thanking the user, you will then see your name appearing on the 'Thanked by' list right below the post.

You will now see two new sets of stats in your mini profile, showing how many thanks you've given and how many thanks you've received.

Hope you all enjoy this new feature! Please let me know if you encounter any bugs...THANKS!

You can't. That's one downside to this MOD, but at least you can easily track your overall 'thank you rate' from your mini profile.

I would call it a "plus point" otherwise you get conscious about your writing and posting. This affects dramatically to the members.
I'd say its best (for the long run too ) that we cant see whether we have a thank-point on certain post or not.

I'm not so sure people would feel to conscious about writing and posting. I kind of see this new feature as just another way to show appreciation for members and their posts.

I'll be monitoring the posting traffic very carefully over the next few days/weeks. If I notice any big fluctuations then I can undue the damage. :)

Just another follow up to my last message. I've seen people implement a feature that shows 'thank yous' and 'groans'. I definitely think that this system might prevent people from posting.

Who wants to get a groan on their profile? :)

The feature is excellent! (and thats why I thanked you for this post) hey I am not against it. I am saying that it's good as it is, that we cant check which post received thank-points.

Groans :? hmm I dont want groans  but yeah the feature is cool.

One more thing I just noticed. Once you 'thank the post' you cant remove it!

Be careful with whom you thank. :) Don't know if I can fix this in the near future...
