Hello,

Recently, I came across a dual program at Johns Hopkins university. This is a dual program called "MA Government / MBA" program.
MA government can be taken at Zanvyl Kreiger School of Arts and Science of JHU and MBA can be taken at Carey Business school of JHU.

Could an expert share their views about this program ?

Here is the link that might help you:

Is this competitive enough ? They do not require GRE or GMAT for students who have 5+ years of work experience.

Regards,
Sarah.

Dear Sarah,

I am not familiar with the program, but can offer you a few general comments in this regard. First, Johns Hopkins has a great name as an institution. The business school, itself, is not well-recognized, but the university, as a whole, is. If you are looking to stay in the northeast US after graduating, then name recognition becomes less of an issue as schools are most known in their local area.

Second, business schools that do not require the GMAT are generally not accredited by AACSB. However, schools that have accreditation for a flagship program can often "extend" that accreditation to other joint or satellite programs. So, it is possible that is what JHU is doing here. The only concern you should have around the lack of a standardized test score requirement is what the quality of the students might be. It could be fine depending on what the other requirements are, how the admissions committee will evaluate, the size of the joint program, etc., but you might want to meet with the admissions office and delve a little deeper into this issue.

Third, it is always best to think about what you are seeking from your graduate education. What type of courses do you need? what types of resources/industry connections do you need? what type of culture/student experience do you want? Then prioritize your list so you have some ranked criteria by which you can compare schools to when you are doing your research. If this joint program provides what you are looking for and has a solid reputation in the geographic area you plan to live after graduation, then it might be a great fit for you.

Best of luck,
Lisa
