Need to get on track

I just took the exam about a month ago and was devastated with the score I recieved. As much as I want to blame the test taker next to me for his loud typing, I know that I need to really get myself together.

I think I will be focusing more on the OG Books, and maybe go through the Manhattan Study guides again. If only I had more time, I would get more questions right. The timing is really making me anxious, and a loud typer next to me doesn't help my concentration either. I need help. =/

I will probably add this Exam Pacer that I found on Apple Iphone store to get my pacing down. I think this should get my pacing down.

Now I got to learn to concentrate too. =)

Hi chuchowboy,

I can understand how frustrating that must be. But I am reading the book The MBA Application Roadmap right now, and it suggests that you should take the GMAT twice no matter what, because the first time it may take some getting used to the format and being in the testing environment with all the distracting factors you mention (other people typing, weird room, etc).

So although I can see how you might feel devastated, maybe it's not as bad as you're making it out to be. Just think about your first go as a trial run! Now you know that you need to study more and work on pacing so that you can kick butt next time :D

Hi chuchowboy,

You'll be able to find tons of great advice throughout this forum on strategies for questions and your path for improvement. For test day performance and anxiety, that's also something for which you can prepare. If you already have access to the MGMAT CATs or any other free tests, perhaps try taking some of them in your public library. You'll never be able to control your testing environment at the test center, so you just have to make sure you do what it takes to become comfortable with it. It's also a proxy for the frustration you feel for the test itself, so as you improve there the peripheral things will improve as well.

Good Luck!

Jose
