1) Each Employee on a certain task force is either a Manager or a Director. What % on the task force are Directors ?

i) The avg salary of the managers on the task force is 5000$ less than the avg salary of all the employees on the task force.

ii) The avg salary of the directors on the task force is 15000$ more than the avg salary of all the employees on the task force.

2) A construction company was paid a total of $500,000 for a project. The companys only costs for the project was for labor & materials. Was the company's profit greater than $150,000 ?

i) The companys total cost was 3 times the cost of the material.
ii) The companys profit was greater than its cost for labor.

3) X , Y and Z shared a 1500 mile drive. Which of the 3 drove the greatest distance on the trip ?

i) X drove 1 hour longer than Y but at an avg rate of 5 miles per hour less than Y.
ii) Z drove for 9 hours at an avg rate of 50 miles per hour.

Note: How can we quickly calculate the details in option i) above, is what I am looking for.

IMO C

we know that each Employee is either Manager or Drector so
D + M = 100%
what is the value of D?

i) The avg salary A = M(A - 5000) + D(A + x)
M = 100% - D
A = (100% - D)(A - 5000) + D(A + x)

it is INSUFFICIENT

ii)
The avg salary A = M(A - y) + D(A + 15000)
M = 100% - D
A = (100% - D)(A - y) + D(A + 15000)

it is INSUFFICIENT

but

A = M(A - 5000) + D(A + 15000)
M = 100% - D
A = (100% - D)(A - 5000) + D(A + 15000)
A = A - 5000 - DA + 5000D + DA + 15000D /-A
0 = - 5000 - DA + 5000D + DA + 15000D
0 = - 5000 + 5000D + 15000D /+5000
5000 = 20000D
D = 1/4 = 25%

IMO E
Given, Total Cost (C) = Labor (L) + Materials (M)
Revenue(R) = $500K

Profit(P) = Revenue(R) - Cost(C)

To have profit > 150K

we should have cost < 350K <== 500K - (greater than)150K
1) C = 3M
Neither can we determine total cost (since we dont know actual material cost) nor can we prove that the total cost (C) < 350K
Hence Not sufficient
2) P > L
Again we cannot determine the total cost, so we cannot determine if C was < 350K

Both 1 & 2)

C = 3M
C = M + L => L = 2M
and since P > L (from stmt 2)
P > 2M
Here, P could be greater than 3M (i.e > Cost), or less than 3M but > 2M
i.e. P > 3M or 2M < P < 3M
Again we dont have actual material cost to determine if P is > 150K or not.

Hence I would go for E!
