Need Advice- Indian/Male/27/ Presales Consultant

Hello team,

Though I had been contemplating to apply for an MBA for quite some time now, I just ended up giving my GMAT few days back. I need your help in analysing my profile and pointing out the right schools and courses for me.

My profile is as follows:
Nationality- India, Male, 27 years

GMAT Score- 660 (Q47, V33) (This was my second attempt. The earlier score was 560.)

Work Experience- 5 years

I've been working with an organisation for the last 5 years as a Presales Consultant (Technology) and provide presales support to customers in different verticals and segments of market, and to the account management team in my organisation.
I've completed quite a few technical certifications during my job to equip myself quite well for the role.
I don't manage a team directly but have mentored quite a number of graduate trainees now.
I've earned various individual and team awards and recognitions during the job.

Educational Qualification-

I did my B.Tech in Electronics and Communications from a decent university in India and was a second ranker in the university. Percentage- 84%
I've been involved in different leadership positions during degree like heading the department's students forum activities during my last year of engineering.
I hold a certificate in French as a third language.

Extra-Curriculars- I've been involved in different things at different times, but havent taken up anything seriously. Photography is my latest passion. I was active in extra-curriculars in my school- debates and dramatics, but havent kept this alive much.

I'm looking for a career in consulting (not just IT cosulting) and an MBA shall help me in getting in the right place. I'm thinking of applying to ISB, NUS (Singapore), HKUST, Melbourne Business School.

I'm not sure if these are the right schools for me or if my profile is appropriate to be even accepted. Can you please help me evaluate my profile and guide me to the right direction?

Congratulations on the remarkable improvement !!

With the given information, I believe the list of your b-schools should be within your reach. You can convert your chances in these b-schools (keeping your avg. GMAT score in mind) by submitting strong application essays by demonstrating leadership skills, achievements at work place, maturity, professionalism, ability to work with others and other aptitudes during the final interviews. Thank you for your reply.

I went through some of the other replies on the forum. Most of the other members (whom may be I represent in a way; Indian IT pool) have been advised to get a better GMAT score. Do you suggest that I start working on my GMAT all over again?

I was specifically interested to apply to ISB, NUS and HKUST. I assume I can get a good direction to my dream role for consulting services and an Asian experience with these institutes. Please suggest if this is correct.

Nikhil,

While your improvement is good, I advise you to retake the GMAT to gain acceptance to ISB (average GMAT score of 711) and increase your chances at NUS and Melbourne Business School.

NUS has an average GMAT score of 658 and Melbourne Business School has an average GMAT score of 664. But the average Indian GMAT score you can expect to be higher. So, although your GMAT score is fine for applying to NUS and Melbourne Business School, your application would be more competitive with a higher score.
