MyGMAT Story! 2 days to go.

I began GMAT test prep in late November 2013. I took few CATs and my performance has been quite inconsistent. I was supposed to appear in the actual test somewhere in the end of March this year. Surprisingly, I had to register for the test on 21st February due to some personal issues.
I need suggestions regarding the final day. I also want to know if I can do anything special in these two days. Please guide me.

My scores for CATs are:

15 Dec 2013: GMATPrep 420 Q25 V21
29th Jan 2014: GMATPrep 520 Q35 V26
10th Feb 2014: MGMAT 710 Q51 V36
16th Feb 2014: EconomistGMAT 670 Q41 V42
18th Feb 2014: Veritas Prep 620 Q44 V31

I am planning to achieve a score between 650-700. But, the recent dip in Veritas CAT has startled me: though, I got similar number of questions wrong in verbal and quantitative, and the percentage of correct answers in verbal was more than quantitative. Why has this happened? Do I need to worry about it?

Suggestions are welcomed.

Thank you!

Adnan.

Hi adnan.afzal,

Since you have only 2 days left before your GMAT, I'd suggest that you don't do anything too crazy - focus on light review of the material. Don't "cram." Don't take any full length CATs. You might find it useful to go back and review your first CAT, redoing the questions that you got wrong.

Your practice CAT scores vary rather significantly from one another, so its tough to gauge how you should perform on Test Day. You could very well hit your goal, but at this point there's no way to be sure.

As to your question, the number of correct answers is NOT the actual measure that matters. There are a number of factors that go into the calculation, including the difficulty of the question, whether you were expected to get it correct or incorrect, the relative position of the question (early, middle, late), whether the question even counted or not (some questions are experimental and are worth 0 points), etc. Rather than could up the number of wrong answers, instead count up the number of questions that you got wrong due to silly mistakes. THAT is an area that everyone needs to work on.

Hey,
Thank you for the advice. I have already started reviewing all the previous CATs one by one. I am trying to gauge my shortcomings.

Thank you once again!
