The show began with a tribute to soul queen Aretha Franklin, who is recovering from an operation performed by Christina Aguilera, Florence and the Machine's Florence Welch, Jennifer Hudson, Martina McBride and Yolanda Adams.[/u]

A) The show began with a tribute to soul queen Aretha Franklin, who is recovering from an operation, performing by Christina Aguilera, Florence and the Machine's Florence Welch, Jennifer Hudson, Martina McBride and Yolanda Adams.

B) With a tribute to soul queen Aretha Franklin, who is recovering from an operation, the show began with song performed by Christina Aguilera, Florence and the Machine's Florence Welch, Jennifer Hudson, Martina McBride and Yolanda Adams.

B looks decent for me..

In C ," was performed" is in passive voice. Avoid it. Intended meaning sounds funny. How can a show begin with a tribute??

D..again intended meaning is distorted.

E has same error as that of C.

This in no where near to GMAT kinda question..plz be away from it.

Again in B, i doubt the modifier. I guess it should be "as a tribute rather than with a tribute"

The sentence correction in GMAT can have only *one* sentence. So I will not consider C and E option. B is definetly awkward in starting phrase. Based on meaning I can easily eliminate D. So right or wrong among given option A will be my choice. though i can see some modifier issue as reported by machoman.

both C & E options are the same................please check on that..................... i feel that B is right because if we remove "who is recovering from an operation," then the sentence seems to be proper as in C option with the line "The song was performed by Christina Aguilera, Florence and the Machine's Florence Welch, Jennifer Hudson, Martina McBride and Yolanda Adams. " it seems that it is separate part of the sentence but we need a sentence which makes the first part complete.

Wats the OA??????

This is not actually a GMAT sentence. I read this sentence on BBC.com.uk and tried to change it to a funny sentence as it is in underline sentence and choice A. The underline sentence makes Christina Aguilera, Florence and the Machine's Florence Welch, Jennifer Hudson, Martina McBride and Yolanda Adams doctors. The correct sentence is C.
