Msc finance/MiM profile evaluation (High GMAT)

Hi everyone, I planing to apply for B-schools in 2019 for Masters in Finance
Nationality: Indian
GMAT-750
Degrees:
1.B.Sc from B.H.U Varanasi
CGPA: 6.3/10

2. M.Sc from Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi
CGPA: 8.9/10

3. M.Tech from IIIT Hyderabad
CGPA: 7.4/10

Fellowships:
1.SURGE fellowship from IIT Kanpur
2.GATE fellowship

Work ex=0

Internship:Working in an NGO for 3 months now

Leadership role in college:
Class Representative during M.Sc

Online courses done:
2 Coursera courses in finance and trading

College wanted to apply:Mcgill,HEC Montreal,ESADE,Kelley,cornell,HEC Paris,Essec,Krannert

You've got a lot of great academics here -- glad your CGPA improved from undergrad to your graduate studies, and your GMAT is terrific.
However, you've got a lot of different kinds of programs and schools/regions listed here, and their requirements are different in each case. You may want to narrow your targets a bit through research. Do you want a two-year Masters, or only a one-year? What are your career aspirations (you already have two Masters degrees, so the specific reason for a third one will be crucial in your application). Are you more interested in only Finance or also in Management? I am asking because not all the schools on your list seem to offer a MSc in Finance: Cornell has a one-year MPS and a two-year MBA in Finance. and McGill offers a "pre-experience" MiM/Finance that targets recent undergrads, but you'd need to check if you have too many Masters degrees to be eligible... so again, narrowing this down and being more specific about what you're looking for will help you identify the right schools for your profile.

Overall, I'm getting a sense of an aspiration to study and probably work in somewhere other than India. I'm happy to advise you more intensively, but I'd need more information.

Hi Margaret Strother,
After my M.Tech I was offered many decent paying IT jobs in india but I have no interest in it. I have a keen interest in field of algorithmic trading, I have read quite a bit programming in field of AI during my college days and I want to apply it in field of stock trading. I want to go into stock trading and later down the carrier want to establish my own mutual fond . So for this reason I want to join a M.Sc finance course. Currently I am interning in an NGO and working in a research lab inorder to meet my finances. I have done some research online and found these programs to be quite interesting Princeton Master of finance and UC Berkeley master of financial engineering. I want your advice regarding these programs and kindly suggest some more similar programs.

Hey there,

Overall, you have a decent profile. A strong GMAT score speaks volumes about your academic skills. In addition to this, education from various top Indian Universities and SURGE and Gate fellowships from IIT Kanpur further provides evidence of your academic capability and would work as an asset especially while applying to the top 10 B schools. Besides these academic achievements, an internship with an NGO reflects experience of community work and helps in establishing you as a people's person.

On the other hand, the profile lacks diversity as you haven't mentioned any other events and extracurricular activities apart from a leadership role during your MSc. and you will have to mention more such roles and position of responsibilities to represent your case better than the rest. Although MiM is marketed as a degree that needs requires no work experience, work experience of up to 2 years would always work in your favor but yes it can be compensated if you can mention enough internships and projects during the course of your education.

Also, for the schools you have mentioned you can definitely target HEC Paris, ESSEC, ESADE, HEC Montreal but you need to have a stellar essays and LOR's as these are dream and competitive schools for applicants. Although McGill and Cornell can also be targeted as safe schools.

Competitive - ESCP, IE, WHU, RSM, Bocconi
Safe- Grenoble, EBS, Notredame Mendoza

i am from India 22, Male

10th-90%
12th-70.4%
undergrad (Btech mechanical engineering)-70.13% ( but i have a history of 20 backlogs and completed my Btech in 4.5 years, this happened because i took a branch that i hated and suffered but cant do anything now whatever happened happened.)


GMAT score 710
IELTS band 7


internships
2 months in Adani Power as a graduate trainee

community service
1)Volunteered for a fund raising for Muskurahat foundation
2) 6 months of volunteer in Blinds men's association India
3) 6 months as a wish granter in Make a wish India foundation

but what are my best shot with this profile?

any top colleges i can apply?
my choice of course is MIM
