A certain movie depicted product A in 21 scenes,product B in 7 scenes,product C in 4 scenes, and product D in 3 scenes.The four product manufacturers paid amounts proportional to the number of scenes in which their product was depicted in the movie.If each manufacturer paid X dollars per scene,how much did the manufacturer of product D pay for this advertising?

(1) The manufacturers of products A and B together paid a total of $560,000 for this advertising.
(2) The manufacturer of product B paid $60,000 more for this advertising than manufacturer of product C paid.

Solution:
Total amount paid by the manufacturer of product A for 21 scenes is 21x dollars.
Similarly total amount paid by the manufacturer of product B for 7 scenes is 7x dollars, amount paid by the manufacturer of product C for 4 scenes is 4x dollars, and amount paid by the manufacturer of product D for 3 scenes is 3x dollars.

Consider first statement (1) alone.
It means 21x+7x = 560,000.
Or x = 20,000.
Or amount paid by the manufacturer of product D is 3x = 60,000.
Or (1) alone is sufficient.

Next consider (2) alone.
It means 7x - 4x = 3x = 60,000.
Or amount paid by manufacturer of product D is 3x = 60,000.
Or (2) alone is also sufficient.

The correct answer is (D).

Ratio of scenes: 21:7:4:3

Because the amount paid is in same proportion, therefore, ratio for amount: 21:7:4:3 which we can write as 21x:7x:4x:3x

Hence, if we can find x, we can find the answer.

A) 21x + 7x = 560,000
=> 28x= 560,000 =>x=20,000

2) 7x = 60000 + 4x
=> x= 20,000

Therefore, answer is D.
